Soundgarden is an American rock band formed in Seattle, Washington in 1984 by singer Chris Cornell, lead guitarist Kim Thayil, and bassist Hiro Yamamoto. Matt Cameron became the band's full time drummer in 1986 while bassist Ben Shepherd became a permanent replacement for Yamamoto in 1990.

Earlier, we said that you guys are from Seattle. What’s the rock and roll scene like out in Seattle?
“It [Superunknown] entered the charts at number one. Which a lot of time, you ask people, and it’s like, ‘Ah, we didn’t care, we didn’t pay attention to the charts.’ But it’s gotta be, I mean, pretty flattering to enter the charts at number one. Or does it really not matter?”
